Patrickbold: This is why only criminals have guns in the UK and the rate of violent crime is rising rapidly in your country as the criminals know civilians can not defend themselves. Every state in the US that has concealed carry laws for law abiding citizens has a lower crime rate than those that are restrictive. Too bad a CCW holder wasn't there to stop the killing at that school in Scotland. Legal gun ownership actually helps stop or prevent violent crime in the US.

F1shbone: We do not have gun licensing in 41 of the 50 states, but we do have about 40 states that allow a concealed carry handgun or "weapon" license. In states like Arizona, Virginia and Alaska, open handgun carry is legal as long as you can legally own a handgun. Background checks must meet the US NICS system for purchase and depending on the state, there may or may not be a waiting period.
