I always wanted to make a video about Viserys. Little psycho that he is I love him as a character. His story is such a tragic one I cannot help but feel sorry for him.

In the books, Dany notes that while Viserys was weak, petty, and cruel, he had spent most of his life as a frightened refugee after his entire family was killed and his home taken away, and thus he was largely a product of his hard childhood on the run. At the least, he had managed to keep Daenerys alive during their life in exile. In different circumstances he might have been a better person, and ultimately he was more pathetic than fearsome (in contrast with Joffrey, for whom there are really no excuses).

A quote from A Clash of Kings that I find describes very well why Viserys is the way he is:
(do not read it if you haven't read the book and don't want to be spoiled about Dany's story!)
.
.
.
.
"Viserys sold my mother's crown, and men called him a beggar. I shall keep this one, so men will call me a queen." And so she did, though the weight of it made her neck ache.
Yet even crowned, I am a beggar still, Dany thought. I have become the most splendid beggar in the world, but a beggar all the same. She hated it, as her brother must have. All those years of running from city to city one step ahead of the Usurper's knives, pleading for help from archons and princes and magisters, buying our food with flattery. He must have known how they mocked him. Small wonder he turned so angry and bitter. In the end it had driven him mad. It will do the same to me if I let it. Part of her would have liked nothing more than to lead her people back to Vaes Tolorro, and make the dead city bloom. No, that is defeat. I have something Viserys never had. I have the dragons. The dragons are all the difference.

And an excerpt from A Storm of Swords:
.
.
.
Viserys had been stupid and vicious, she (Dany) had come to realize, yet sometimes she missed him all the same. Not the cruel weak man he had become by the end, but the brother who had sometimes let her creep into his bed, the boy who told her tales of the Seven Kingdoms, and talked of how much better their lives would be once he claimed his crown.

  • No one really gave Harry Lloyd any credit for how amazingly he portrayed Viderys. You did. Great job with the video.

  • @MoonCalledA Aww thank you so much!!! I am Dany all the way lol I love her she is the only true heir to the throne! I am glad too that Viserys never became king, he would have made a horrible king! Yet I do feel sorry for him. It's not his fault he became the person he is before he dies...
