Holland Reynolds Crawls to Finish Line

Holland Reynolds, 16, during a cross country race in California has been hit by cramps and dehydration to a few hundred meters from the finish, supported by the coach, she crawled over the finish line. "I did it in honor of coach Tracy" said the girl.

L'histoire d'Holland Reynols émeut les États-Unis. Aux prises avec des crampes lors d'une course, la fille a néanmoins tenu à franchir la ligne d'arrivée pour dédier la victoire à son entraîneur malade.
Des images d'une course populaire qui s'est déroulée à San Francisco touchent le coeur des Américains.
La Californienne Holland Reynolds, 16 ans, n'avait qu'à passer la ligne d'arrivée pour faire gagner son équipe et ainsi dédier sa victoire à son entraîneur atteint de sclérose latérale amyotrophique. Victime de crampes à quelques mètres du but, elle n'a pas abandonné pour autant. Elle est arrivée en boitant à deux mètres de la ligne, avant de s'écrouler. Holland Reynolds a finalement réussi à passer l'arrivée à quatre pattes.

Holland Reynolds, en 16-årig studerende fra San Francisco University, har givet de professionelle atletikstjerner noget at stræbe efter.
I en opsigtsvækkende episode fra et terrænløb, som i øjeblikket florerer hos amerikanske netmedier, viser den 16-årige atletikudøver nemlig hvad ægte fighterviljer er.
Segnefærdig og dehydreret
Stærkt udmattet og dehydreret kravlede Holland Reynolds nemlig over målstregen i den californiske udgave af de amerikanske holdmesterskaber i terrænløb for highschool-elever.
Alt gik fint til at begynde med, da de 164 terrænløbere fra 20 konkurrerende universiteter blev sendt ud på den 5 kilometer lange rute.
Holland Reynolds lå helt i front indtil den sidste kilometer. Men så gik det galt. Hun havde tilsyneladende lagt for hårdt ud og travede derfor segnefærdig mod mål.
Bare fem meter fra målstregen drattede den udmattede atletikudøver, som senere skulle vise sig at være ramt af dehydrering, omkuld i græsset.
Sygdomsramt træner
Men op skulle hun. Dels kunne hendes hold fra San Fransicso University kun vinde, hvis hun gennemførte.

Ma non ha desistito: prima zoppicando si è portata a due metri dalla linea finale, dove è crollata a terra. Neanche questo l'ha fermata: sostenuta dal coach, a carponi ha superato il traguardo consegnando alle compagne di squadra e all'allenatore il trofeo.
Alla fine è arrivata al 37° posto, ma il premio di squadra viene assegnato in base ai punteggi dei cinque atleti in gara, per cui - dati i risultati dei compagni - bastava che Holland non fosse squalificata per garantire la vittoria. La ragazza è stata portata via con l'ambulanza, si è ripresa senza problemi
"L'ho fatto in onore di coach Tracy, avrei fatto qualsiasi cosa per arrivare", ha dichiarato la ragazza. Jim Tracy, 60 anni, ha scoperto tre anni fa di essere malato di sclerosi laterale amiotrofica. Ma non ha smesso di allenare anche se ha annunciato alla squadra che questa sarebbe stata la sua ultima stagione. Che si è chiusa, grazie a Holland, con una vittoria.

Just read about you in a Danish newspaper, and yes as the other Dane stated, on the frontpage! It was a dangerous thing you did there but I'm glad to know you're okay. You won for your trainer and your team and that's one hell of an achievement. My aunt died from ALS, be good to your trainer and his family the coming time <3
