This is it? This is what I've read about for years on the net that is the "OMG! ITS TEH AWSUMZ!" Really? I mean, I could probably sit through the series, but it isn't holding my attention. Guess I'd much rather play D&D than watch an anime recreation of it. 2 out of 5 stars.

No matter how bad this looks compared to other anime, it will always have special place in my heart as it was the first anime I ever saw.

Wow, been looking for this for a while. I prefer the original Japanese dialogue but no complaints since this brings back lots of college memories. ^_^ And to those not won over by the first episode, keep in mind that it was originally a test episode. Viewer response was positive so they made the other episodes to complete the story. I actually liked the OVA better than the subsequent TV series.

I dunno, I thought the English dub for this was quite good. It's old and there are some places that do sound stiff, but by and large it's a very well cast and well-acted (for the most part) dub. It's not as good as dubs of today, but it's in no way terrible. And it's certainly better than the much more problematic Chronicles of the Heroic Knight dub.

@rmfyt After I got the DVDs, I was disappointed too and couldn't get through more than like an episode or two. Indeed, this first episode doesn't measure up to the outstanding middle and mid-late episodes (things build up). Later I rediscovered the anime and liked it so much I watched it several times! The Japanese voice acting, IMO, is ten times superior to the English--and for whatever reason the translation into English in subtitles is different and much finer than the dubbing language.
