I think people discuss Page's tunings more than anything else about him. He's truly a master no matter what you think about him. Being able to play real fast and shredding or whatever doesn't make you great. It's what you compose, your feel, etc. that counts. Page never played stuff like Eddie Van Halen, but EVH never put out something like The Rain Song before. Not even close. Jimmy Page is the ultimate musician/guitar hero.

I actually love the song since I first heard it
But that was the unplugged version and not the studio one (who is awesome too).

One time, this bitch tried playing Nickelback on her cellphone over this song while it was on the radio. I kept turning it up. I would have blown the speakers out of principle if that is what it took.

Only a genius would come up with those chords no matter what the tuning.

"Dazed and Confused" was a song written in the late Sixties by Jacke Holmes. The Page-era Yardbirds happen to see him in concert, and liked this song. The Yardbirds then worked their own version out, due mostly to Page. After The Yardbirds broke up, Page formed Led Zeppelin (inititially called the New Yardbirds). "Dazed" had been such a concert staple that it quickly became part of the LEd Zep catalogue. Other than a lyric change, no change to the song was made.

Dazed and Confused is a JPJ composition, actually. He's the one who wrote the "shredding" or heaviness, although it isn't even that heavy, and it's their fastest song :P
So as far as writing goes, Page kept it classy, and virtuosic.
