BEIJING: WE ARE READY
December 10th, International Human Rights Day, is a day set-aside to
recognize the inherent rights of every individual. The IOC promised in
2001, when they awarded China the 2008 Summer Olympics, that the Games
would bring an improvement in the human right situation in China.
In reality, the human rights situation in China and Tibet is growing
steadily worse. In the lead up to the Beijing Olympics, Chinese
authorities are intensifying their crackdown on freedom of religion,
assembly and expression in Tibet.
Just last month in Eastern Tibet, Runggye Adak (hyperlink:
http://actionnetwork.org/campaign/run..., a 52 year-old father of
eleven, was sentenced to eight years in prison for simply calling for the
return of the Dalai Lama to Tibet.
China is clearly a human rights failure. And yet, the IOC remains silent.
But Tibetans and their supporters around the world are speaking out. In
the lead up to August 2008, we are shining the spotlight on China's brutal
occupation of Tibet and failed human rights record.

Immediately after coming into exile, the Dalai Lama established the Tibetan Government-in-Exile, officially known as the Central Tibetan Administration of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Since then, the exile government under the Dalai Lama set up as many as 12 foreign missions all under the auspices of His Holiness’ name. These missions and other establishments are essential to bring the issue of Tibet to their respective countries and to to assert the just cause of Tibet in international forums.

how exactly is it a "disaster"?
because it's most participated olympics ever? or is it because it's the largest event ever in human history? i'm not supporting Chinese government or anything, but the game itself is great, so give it a break

I will see Free California, Free Texas, Free Florida ... when China surpasses the US, both in economy and military. Just spend some money to train a bunch of people from the places with mass media coverage. Well done!!! You are doomed.

I agree, China is such a loser. The olympics is already a failure.

The Chinese kidnapped Gendhun Choekyi Nyima, the 11th Panchen Lama of Tibet, when he was only 6 years old. He is the youngest political prisoner in the world. Amnesty International has confirmed the abduction.

What you are trying to do is to prompt more misunderstanding. It was based on carefully chosen facts. The case cannot cover the whole human right situation of China. Some individual may cause the killing. The only way to solve the issue is to communicate with Chinese government. That is what Olympic tries to promote.

Nah, Tibetans are too cowardly for that. Look how they had to use the Olympic games for their type of terrorism.
Besides if they are true Buddhists, it would go against his teachings.

Most westerners know little about Tibet, ignorance generates arrogance. Do they really know the will of common Tibetans? They only listen to those exiled Tibetans, and most of them are from ruling class in old Tibet, their ruling was so brutal, it's joke to call it free Tibet.

Sure, brutal Chinese occupation of Tibet is "not a problem". According to Chinese autorities, the problem is the people in the world who fail to act like everything is ok.
Sorry Chinesse, Maybe in China autorities can tellu you what to do, but outside world knows that you are a liar, and brutal occupier, regardless of how "perfect Olimpics" you organize.
