American's Colleen O'Connor and Jim Millns took the World Silver medal at their home rink in Colorado Springs in 1975. Pakhamova and Gorshkov had stayed home, and it was a close battle with the striking Moiseyeva and Minenkov. Much like the recent Tanith and Ben showdown (and also the 1969 Schwomeyer and Sladky American World Dance Silver medal), many were left with raised eyebrows and a sagging pit in our stomachs. But Colleen and Jim were happy to rise from 7th to 2nd, and it set them up well for a challenge to the Olympic Ice Dance podium, an event that was held for the first time in 1976. They won a Bronze medal in Innsbruck.

Just a collection of photos to the audio track of the broadcast. I realize only true skating fans will get much out of this, but it was a great moment for American skating, and a fond memory.

  • The opening reminds me a great deal of Blumberg/Seibert's 81 effort. One picture shows famous World dance coach, Doreen Denny.
