Chicago's Califone performs 'When Leon Spinx Moved into Town' live at Emo's - Austin, TX (6/11/04). This song is from the band's 2003 CD release, Quicksand/Cradlesnakes.

BTW - If it's 4:20 in your head, then give this jam a listen. It'll blow your mind. Beware! :)

  • Tim's guitar playing is unique and abstract - never heard anything like his jammish lead work. I love the smooth groove the band gets into. 1st time I experienced 'fone I though Tim looked so much like John Lennon.

  • leon spinx off of quicksand/cradlesnakes

  • Thanks, McT. Califone is amazing live!

<just sharing> My favorite Califone release is 'Roomsound'. What's yours?

  • Anyone know the song title? Too lazy to go through my six Califone CDs.

  • QS/CS is one of those CDs where the 1st time i heard it, i wanted to send it back! then it grows with each listen. Impressive really...

  • Yeah, loftus was great, like a junk yard learned how to play instruments. Really spare - you could hear the parts all clunk around as Tim moaned around cooly over top. The CD had a picture on it that was made out of real sandpaper.

  • Ha ! Leon Spinx did move to Addison. Drank with him at Fuzzy Navel / Gundersons.

  • like that one and heron king blues, just sounds really wholesome.

  • ...Yeah you're right 'Quicksand and Cradlesnakes'is a fantastic record....worth hearing if only for 'Vampiring Again'.Superb stuff!!

  • thanks for revamping my interest in califone

  • not me... sounds strange enuff to be good

  • i agree. anyone heard of loftus? members of red red meat, june of 44, and rex. self titled album is great!

  • these guys make me wanna trot down to the mississippi and get baptized... thanks for the sharing

  • Wow, good job for a held held. Thanks for uploading this. You're right that the guitar parts are very unusual and creative - not to mention the rest of the band.
