Democrat Chris Murphy represents the 5th Congressional District of Connecticut. Mr. Murphy is always accessible to his constituency. He likes to hold meetings at grocery stores. He calls them, Congress on your corner. In the summer they usually attract 20 to 50 people at a time.

On Wednesday, August 5, Congressman Murphy held court at a Stop and Shop Store in Simsbury, CT., a wealthy and quite liberal enclave in the state.

A huge crowd assembled. They brought hand-made signs. Their spontaneity was a force in itself! Health care reform was the main topic for discussion, and discuss it they did. At times peoples emotions rolled across the store parking lot like swells breaking on an ocean beach.

There were a very few supporters of Congresss new health care bill. If this any indication what is happening among average voters in Connecticut, every incumbent has got to be scared!

  • What's most unfortunate is that the public opiIon IS a co-op option that is viable enough to negotiate a contract with hospitals & drug companies and remain an OPTION. Without it you have the 2nd co-op option - that is, the co-op that allows small businesses to purchase ins., which has to be taxed to be viable. THE REPUBLICANS KNEW THAT. They don't care about you, they are representing the insurance & pharmacy industries and their stockholders. Fox "News" has duped you. You are sheep to them.

  • We are not Republicans......both sides must be defeated. True competition will be the only thing that will work.

Insurance is not health care. Insurance is protection against catastrophic injury or disease!

Minor costs should be paid out of pocket like any other expense.

In the UK, the rich can pay and the poor die. Because they can afford it.

  • These idiots who keep saying "what about tort reform" obviously are too ignorant hat tort reform is legislated on a state level. If they are so anti-big government, then they should stop insisting on making tort reform a federal issue. What about red herrings.

  • Thanks for setting us idiots straight. This is a good reason to oust most members of the Connecticut legislature next year.

What is "hat tort reform", mr. smartypants ?

  • ....obviously too ignorant to realize that tort reform is legislated on a state level.

Do you need that spelled out further ? Tort Reform Laws are STATE laws, not federal laws.

It's a red herring. Do you need that spelled out for you?

A red herring is what a Republican congressman or senator - or the "news"* channel that backs him - declares as relevant to his cause in order to mislead you.

Mislead - spelled out: as in relying on you to fall for it & follow their cues like sheep.

  • Please educate us. We all need to know.

We don't have all the answers, but we are willing to learn. We don't suppose to be the elites!

  • These people are why I left the Republican party, and lent my support to Chris Murphy and the Democratic party. I also don't appreciate being yelled at by tea party demonstrators when I go to vote. These people treat democracy like they're spectators at a football game.

  • i love simsbury (musa)

  • GOP

    Grandstanding, Opposing, & Preventing.

If the Republicans were so opposed to big spending and taxes, they'd give themselves a few salary cuts and stop lining their pockets with money from the health care industry. They don't. The Republicans are not representing people who just work for a living. They are representing their biggest investors - industry and the shareholders holding stock in it - that is where they get more money than they receive for staff salaries.

    You've been had.

  • Non profit, yes that is why our country is bankrupt and the dollar is on the brink of collapse, because the government doesn't know how to run anything. If public option happens soon there will be no option left but the government. Why not make govt group plans and corporate plans illegal so insurance has to compete for our business as individuals? If everyone is entitled to healthcare why don't we just provide it for the world, doesn't everybody deserve it even if they don't contribute?

  • Obama thinks healthcare should be mandatory pay a tax or go to jail. Nice options so much for my individual rights? His arguement is our ER rooms are already overburdened with the uninsured? HMM nice logic so lets not just pay for everyones ER, but their hospital stays too! I liked his analogy everyone has car insurance by law, I guess he didn't realize you can choose not to drive.
