Implosion '99

Newfoundland's first building implosion. Takes place at the Argentia Naval Base on November 6th, 1999. 1000's of people came out to watch this historic event.

Uh, how come the explosive used results in such huge fireballs?

This is the first implosion I came across that results in the building burning

They did that just for show. This was Newfoundland's first implosion. Thousands of people were in attendance and they aimed to impress!

Was there from '65 - '68, Marine barracks, us Jarheads referred to it as building 886. Used to have fun messing with the officers bringing in women from St. John (I was NCOIC iof the front gate and would have to track them down when they did not have the ladies offf base at the perscribed time (they were usually at the Q). Great memories of the Blue Room.

Still hurts to see the Q fall, was there 88-90 and had some of the best times of my life. Even did some part time work at Navy Broadcasting, was my start on a microphone that I still use to this day, Doing The Metal Shop with Michael Foutch and then The Late Night Rockfest as my own show, best times! Lived in room 630, will never forget it.

this was the biggest mistake ever made in argentia next to letting the americans dump pcb's and jet fuel all over the site and allowing them to brake there 99 year lease. which in turn made the people placentia and the surronding area pay for the clean up with the very money the american gorenment paied to get out of the lease. i think there are some very unsettled ramifications , and i think one would be, the over welming rise of cancer in the area by over 900% in the last 20 years look it up

What happens when you knock down the only building in Nefie Land that has an elevator, when I was there 63 to 66, I would bring the girls in from town just to ride it, then off to the Blueroom to fight wid da Jarhead's.
