Testing out my new Sigma 30mm 1.4f prime lens on a Canon Rebel T2i at 1080p 24fps HD Video mode. I used a bleach bypass effect to increase contrast between blacks and whites and tinted it slightly green in Final Cut.

The song is called "Sparks" by the British band "Coldplay" from their second studio album "Parachutes".

Did I drive you away?
I know what you'll say
You say, "Oh, sing one we know"
But I promise you this
I'll always look out for you
That's what I'll do

I say "oh"
I say "oh"

My heart is yours
It's you that I hold on to
That's what I do
And I know I was wrong
But I won't let you down
(Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah, yeah I will, yes I will)

I say "oh"
I cry "oh"

Yeah I saw sparks
Yeah I saw sparks
And I saw sparks
Yeah I saw sparks
Sing it out

La, la, la, la, oh.
La, la, la, la, oh.
La, la, la, la, oh.
La, la, la, la, oh.

Song by Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Will Champion, Guy Berryman.

  • pretty good test, but i would turn down the iso abit dude

    :D

  • @JackBoothAF Thanks, but the ISO was at 100. I had to keep the 1.4 aperture to keep the film consistent. That's why it is so washed out.

  • i havent a multitude of comments for this....

cant believe u got james to do this

    could work on the shakiness

too much scenery shots (the garage)

dude ur house full of random shit worked perfect for this

    and lastly.....

james break up with his girlfriend?

  • @dragonsroc Yea, I had to drag him out.

There is no image stabilization in my prime lens because the focal length is only 30mm.

I actually was running out of footage to use for the song.... and resulted in using the indoor footage. (I needed to show how low level lighting quality looked like because it was more of a test.

Yes, there is nothing you cannot film at home.

    Which one?

  • great quality man, the light is jus a lil too bright against the white paint tho.

  • @CHUKDEE415 Hey thanks! I applied a bleach bypass effect and some color grading to make it look more authentic. And it basically killed the paint color. But otherwise it looks amazing.

  • a few of those shots are way too overexposed, try a faster shutter speed when whites get blown out like that. some good footage though i think i'll be getting this lens soon.

  • @ledzppn69 of course you can close the aperture a couple f stops, but I thought we were talking about keeping it at 1.4 :)

  • @dothisdothat321

You can also close the aperture...Jesus. its not like shooting at 1.4 is going g to give you the best results anyways.

  • @ledzppn69 dont know where you get your "general info" from, if you dont set the camera to a high shutter speed or change the iso your stuck with blown out footage.

  • @dothisdothat321

Not really. Cranking up shutter speed would have had a different effect. The general rule is to use 1/(2x fps). For instance, if you're shooting at 60fps, you'd want around a 1/125 shutter speed for optimal results. For 24p, 1/50 or 1/60. Ramping up the shutter speed will give you more "stuttery" footage, which could be good for doing super slow mo in twixtor or maybe some high action scenes.

Also, you can have constant aperture at any number... just close it a little...

  • @mattjlew should have cranked up the shutter speed so manage exposure

  • could use a steady-cam, if buying one is too expensive, make one

  • agh so much shake! the one thing im worried about with this lens ;0

  • @mattjlew maybe 60fps with a 60 shutter? (I think that's how it works)

  • somehow i think the shakiness makes the video awesome.
