The 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funded a restoration project, which created some jobs, in the Stanislaus National Forest. A historic stage stop from the 1890's and buildings built in 1931, called Baker Station are restored and used by the Forest Service and the Columbia Community College are used for classrooms for the High Sierra Institute. The classes are environmental and forestry in nature.
