(It was pretty difficult to compress a 30min DVD into You Tube's 100MB limit while maintaining quality audio and video. So this is in mono and nowhere near as sharp as the source video. With that said...)

OUATII is a DVD I created for my unit (2/6 IN Bn) as a video scrapbook of some of the events, emotions, and people that made up our 16 month Iraq deployment back in March 2003.
Being known as "the photo guy", I was tasked by our battalion commander to create this for all the soldiers and their families. After completion in Sep '04, the battalion duplicated it for all ~600 soldiers so they could take it home to their families for Christmas leave and show them what they had done in Iraq.

About 40% of the photos I took, and the remainder from other soldiers over our battalion. I pretty much used the entire Adobe software suite to create it, self-taught over several months.

Also won "Best Short Film" in the 2004 Army Photography Contest, as well as video snippets now being used throughout out the new Military channel / Discovery channel documentary show, "My War Diary".

I'd like to give some thanks to Lt Matt Greb and the soldiers of 2/6 Infantry (esp C co.), Baumholder Germany for their cooperation and images used in the video.

  • please can anybody tell me what is the name of the music from 16:00 to 21:00 ?? THANKS

  • The Verve "Bittersweet Symphony"

  • This is very well produced with an excellent choice of music (I;m afraid of Americans indeed!). I wish you the best of luck on future projects. This was a project that will remain on my mind in the future.

  • thank you for your compliments!

  • I love how there's no distinction made between 9/11 and iraq, even by people who were involved and making videos like this.

  • That was the lead-in for the war in Iraq, that's why it's there. This video is not here to discuss the controversy between 9/11 and the war, only to show the story of soldiers.

  • Thank you so much for doing this Sendelbach! I never took any pictures, on either deployment, and I wish I did. Being able to go back and watch this movie means a lot to me. My DVD got scratched along time ago, but at least I can grab a copy off youtube, even if they did cut the sound. I still remember the songs.
