Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala tested the sons of Adam with many trials, the main four are: Shirk, Greed, Knowledge, Kingdom. Allah showed us the preventions from these trials through the stories of the nations before us, Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala said "Indeed in their stories, there is a lesson for men of understanding" [Surah Yusuf (12) : 111]
