Why vote for Obama?
Because Sarah Palin may become president, if McCain dies in office (there's a strong possibility since he is older and has had health problems). She's pro life, which is fine. I respect a woman's right to choose to carry her pregnancy to full term if that's what deems correct for her. Because that would be her choice. That is why I'm PRO CHOICE.
Pro Choice means that each individual woman makes a choice, based on her own, deeply personal reasons, whether religious convictions, personal circumstances, etc. Someone who is pro life usually wants to impose their beliefs on others.
What Sarah Palin does not realize is that women like her could never have EVER been considered for Vice President if they had not gotten control over their reproductive systems. It's that simple, and that ironic.
Women were always slaves to their fear of unwanted pregnancy..."Biology is Destiny"....Before the pill, before legal abortion, what would happen if a young woman became pregnant out of wedlock? Sometimes she would seek an illegal back alley abortion (and often bleed to death) or she would be sent to live with relatives in another town (to hide her pregnancy and then be forced to give up the baby, like nothing had happened). Usually for religious reasons, she would not receive any instructions re: birth control.
Or sometimes infanticide took place. Some babies were killed minutes after being born, and thrown away (this still happens out of fear and ignorance). I'm sure in rural small towns, this unfortunately happened many times, before the age of abundant cameras and videos, mass media, etc. People were able to hide it, and were sworn to secrecy about it and women were put to 'shame' but they were kept ignorant about their bodies and how to prevent pregnancy.
Young women can be criticized for NOT being attractive, or for BEING attractive....the mixed messages that young women get can make them more prone to being sexually active before they're ready. It's ideal to wait until their wedding night, but that's just not realistic today.
My point is we can't go backwards to what we think is an idealized time in the past, because a lot of underhanded things happened and it wasn't all a utopia before legalizing abortion.
Women must move forward, away from ignorance. Of course, a woman doesn't get pregnant on her own, but the end result of unprotected sex takes place in her body, so she must have the ultimate choice. It's ideal to have the father involved with the choice, but that doesn't always happen.
Palin governs a sparsely populated state, and doesn't seem to understand the real problems of our overpopulated planet...and that each child should be born wanted and loved and many young women are just not ready for that...who will raise all of the unwanted kids? Will Palin adopt them?
No one wants abortion, but how can you prevent unwanted pregnancies unless people get educated, and either abstain, or use birth control...then the need for abortions would drop, but still be a choice available.

Plus Palin is for drilling in the Alaskan wilderness, which means she will not be as interested in supporting alternative energy sources. She's not certain that mankind's actions are responsible for global warming, even though all the top scientists say it is. Obama is open to wild power, solar power, etc.
