Disney's Little Mermaid Ariel Costume

Today, we are almost immune to Disney's marketing presence. With each movie, you can find toys and the local fast food restaurant, clothing in the kids section, and every kind of odd product tie in imaginable (Visa Toy Story 3 commercials, anyone?). What we fail to remember is this was not always the case. In fact, in the early 90s, it was quite difficult to find Disney merchandise for their latest movie.

Perhaps you are like me. You grew up in the revival era of Disney Princesses, being introduced to Ariel, Belle, and Jasmine as a child. Did you yearn to dress up like them and become the princess as well? Were your parents like mine, scrambling for the latest promotional tie-in or creating you your very own princess costume?
