Koko Makes New Kitten her "Baby" for Now

Koko is visited by 7 kittens, to see if she is interested in a new kitten companion (she's had several over the years, starting with the famous All Ball in 1985, through Smoky, who passed away in 2004). Turns out Koko was very interested in one of the new kittens. Stay tuned for the sequel to see how this love affair evolves. Meanwhile, Koko is not giving up on her dearest wish: to raise a gorilla baby. The Gorilla Foundation is currently working on an adoption plan to help Koko fulfill her wish — which could well lead to her teaching another gorilla to be able to communicate with humans (in sign language), providing a gorilla ambassador for the next generation.

@Sam Gordon Koko is alive and healthy.(: I completely agree with you; Koko deserves her baby and they have been trying hard to get her one. They got her a male gorilla named Ndume, but they wont mate because gorillas usually mate in groups(multiple females to one male) So they are trying to get her at least two more female gorillas so they can mate together. Plus, Koko has never witnessed mating and doesn't know how so they'll have to teach her. I really hope she gets her wish!<3

Just because humans are more powerful than other animals, it doesn't mean we are less kind. Humans also love their pets and if Gorillas found a way to farm food and build civilization they would also clear the rain forest. We're all animals with survival mechanisms which include greed, violence ect.

You are so right... Humans are the worst and we could learn from animals on how to be caring and kind.. And Koko is not bothered that its not a baby Gorilla, she just knows it needs love regardless.. And so much we could learn from Koko about judging someone just because they are different from us... She doesn't care and neither should we...

This "koko wants a baby" has been going on for YEARS now. I'm convinced the "researchers" are not going to let it happen.

Think about it, if she gets a baby, koko's willingness to learn will more then likely end. I'm sure, like all mothers, her main attention and focus will be a baby. Ending the research. I'm so sad for her. If they truely cared for her, they'd let her integrate into a group and live the rest of her yrs as a gorilla. Just my opinion.
