Croydon Mosque & Islamic Centre, Wellesley Road, Croydon - established in the early 1970s in a small ground floor hall on Wellesley Road. [There are reports that a house on Derby Road, West Croydon was used prior to this from as far back as the early 1960s]. The Wellesley Road site was rented from the council and was earmarked to be demolished. So the Croydon Muslim community
So the Croydon Muslim community acquired a Victorian house, 525 London Road in the early 1980s, and over the next 20 years purpose built a mosque of 3500 capacity on the site. The London Road site was registered for solemnising marriages on 8th December 1982.
