Why are the French so interested in the US election? Could Obama win in France? Do the French think Obama is a socialist?

  • The "socialist" question was funny. The USA is shifted so far to the right, compared to France, our democrats are more like their UMP and the Republican party is closer to their National Front. Sarkozy would be like a democrat here.

  • Mind you, the Republican Party also stands for protectionism and a strong public sector (the Pentagon, the NASA etc which play a very important role in the US economy), they just pretend to be pro-market for propaganda purposes. It also stands for a big welfare state.... for the rich. lol

But "socialist" being a a dirty word is an amusing American-only thing.. Remnants of McCarthyism...

  • @Smiley0091 It's true, but it's not the American's fault, no one in America reports on French politics or builds up an interest in foreign lands. Even here in Quebec I think we get alot more information about American domestic politics than politics in France. They're so powerful they pretty much eclipse all of the other countries' influence.

  • @shion255 I agree 100%. But still no survey can ask everyone.

  • @TheIceman567 Noooooooooooooooooooooo! Overinterpretation all over the place! I mean to say that only a serious survey gives significant results, and that a survey where only a very few persons are questionned is certainly not serious.

  • @shion255 So are you anti-Obama?

  • @halowarrior510 don't speak to soon lol.

  • they're only questionning a few persons -_-'

  • f they went and asked random Americans in the streets the same questions but about french politicians....I am 100% sure most of people wouldn't know much about it. Especially 2 random U.S girls.... they would be like "Sarkozy...who is that?"

I have lived in States for a while and I am not trying to say that all americans are ignorant but let's face it - most Americans know little or even nothing about foreign political life. Yet they manage to have strong opinions on every subject.

  • now the french should elect a black man
