This video was created for the Birth Matters Virginia contest. I hope you enjoy the video, and learn a lot from it! Feel free to give us some stars, and share it with your friends!

We created this video to share with everyone the joy and fulfillment that can come when birth becomes a community event and rite of passage. There are also a lot of physical benefits from having other experienced women involved in birth.

Persuading insurance companies to cover the cost of doulas is the best strategic step to increasing accessibility of doulas. If you are pregnant and would like to have a doula your birth here are steps you can take to pursuade your insurance provider to increase your chance of reimbursment:

* Submitting a doctor or midwife's referral or prescription for doula services

* Submitting well documented statistics of doulas' influence upon birth outcomes

* Actually achieving a low intervention, low cost birth

* Submitting a superbill for doula services complete with diagnosis and treatment codes

* Resubmitting with more documentation if first claim is denied

  • I love your title! Nice job. Proctor & Gamble in Cincinnati pays for Doulas. My wife, also a doula, just printed her first receipt. Good luck!

  • Glad to hear that!!! Thanks for the feedback.

  • Great job on the video! Who did the videography?

  • Tessa Lee did. She is communications major, glad you liked it!
