Very emotional and sad, but this episode or so was the pinnacle break to where the brothers separated but then came to realize they were going to go against what is written in the prophecies by sticking together.

You know, throughout this entire episode -- this entire season, to be honest -- my heart broke for Sam.
You can tell his intentions were good, really. His goal was to kill demons, kill Lilith (which would supposedly stop the apocalypse.) His judgment was impaired because of Dean's death, and he made bad decisions.
I love, love, love Sammie, and my heart broke for him.
Seriously, our poor Winchester boys have gone through enough... They need a break. :(
