A Brel song that I heard Scott Walker do, and then David Bowie. This arrangement by Tom Saputo conforms more to the Bowie version. I like the proud, brave ambivalence towards the afterlife cottage industry and its many bureaucratic discontents. Poignant. Recorded live. The scenes are from Ingmar Bergman's 'Persona' (1966)

  • I do not think Jesus buffed his nails.

  • My death waits like an old roué so confident I'll go his way whistle to him and the passing time... My death waits like a bible truth at the funeral of my youth weep loud for that - and the passing time... My death waits like a witch at night as surely as our love is bright let's not think about the passing time...
