Apparently, the Super Sonic video for Sonic Riders (and its sequel--but I'll get to that later) have been very popular, and a new frequently asked question has popped up as of late: How do you unlock Super Sonic? This video is part of a series that will show the Gold rank for every mission in the game.
Red Canyon is the Babylon counterpart to Splash Canyon. The stage is mostly unchanged, though you go into a cave underneath the first pond instead of going onto the pond itself, and instead of a hole in the center of the giant wheel near the end, each racer is transported to a hole in the cliffside above the wheel. That's pretty much it.
Doesn't mean the missions are a cake walk though. These are way harder than Splash Canyon's.
Mission 1 is all about Cream doing tricks. How does a 6-year-old like her pull it off?
C - 0 pts
B - 1 pt
A - 2 pts
AA - 4 pts
S - 6 pts
SS - 8 pts
X - 10 pts
Get 12 points to pass the mission and 18 points to get the Gold rank. Yes, there is ony a 6-point difference between passing and the Gold rank, so you might as well aim for Gold. There are fewer opportunities in Red Canyon than in Splash Canyon--three, as far as I can tell. The first trick ramp is, in my opinion, the most difficult one to do properly, as there's barely enough space for an SS-Rank.
The pieces of junk in Mission 2 are located as follows:
1. Right in the middle of the path near the start.
2. In the middle before entering the first cave.
3. Get onto the rail in the cave; it's in the middle of the rail.
4. This is towards the end of the rail in the cave.
5. In the middle after the cave.
6. In the middle immediately before the rapids.
7. Do a trick on the giant gear, aiming slightly to the left of center. Land on the grind rail.
8. From the end of the grind rail after the gear, hop to get onto the next consecutive rail.
9. There is one more rail in this set; the piece is on this third one.
10. This is at the end of the third rail, the same one as the 9th one was on.
11. In the second cave right before the waterfall.
12. Towards the right near the finish line.
As you can see, half of the parts are on grind rails. This isn't a course for Speed characters, but if you haven't gotten used to grinding in this game, you're not going to pass this one.
Mission 3, as usual, is about finishing 1 lap as quickly as possible. As Knuckles, you get a bunch of water barrels to punch to gain some air. There are also a bunch of bombs in the way to make it more difficult. I suppose I should explain, huh? These bombs will not only slow you down considerably, but they'll also take away about one-third of your air. Obviously, it's best to avoid them; since the limits are stricter in Wave's missions, hitting even one will destroy your chances of the Gold rank in Mission 3s, though Mission 1s and 2s are still fine. You'll pass if you finish within 1 minute 5 seconds and get the Gold rank if you finish within 56 seconds.
We have another Air Ride mission in Mission 4. The game loves these, huh? To pass, get through 8 of the flight hoops. To get the Gold rank, pass through all 15. (I aimed wrong so I made Tails fall off. Sorry, Tails.) This is a pretty easy mission, at least for me. If you've passed the Air Ride missions up to now, this should be a piece of cake too.
Mission 5 introduces another type of mission, the Air mission. In these missions, you're given a Gear that holds an extra-large amount of air. I believe they all involve the Air Tank, but let me know if there's an exception. Anyway, you'll begin with barely enough Air to steer properly, and you'll need to finish with as much Air as possible. All of these missions have the same pass and Gold rank requirements: 100 Air units to pass and 175 for Gold. (Yes, Air is measured in numerical quantities in this game. Did you think those +30s and +45s are for show?)
In this mission, you're given a Monitor worth 30 units of Air with some bombs nearby, and you'll have to make the rest of it up with tricks, flight, and rotating the stick during the rapids. It shouldn't be that hard as long as you don't hit any Air-depleting bombs or miss anything. Well, actually, I hit a bomb because I didn't want to do a slide turn (which consumes Air) and hit a bomb, which wastes more Air. There's another trick opportunity after that though, so I ended up with 185 units.
