It's funny how things happen. Originally we were supposed to meet with Stanley Clarke at NAMM. The interview would have been a cattle call with guys like me, one after the other, asking the same questions and all ending up with somewhat dry footage of talking heads with the impossibly loud convention going on in the background.

A bit of the flu kept us apart that day and, as it turns out, we were invited to go to the studio and talk with him there. In my email exchanges I casually mentioned that it would be great if he could join us guitar in hand.

What a thrill it was for me to sit on the couch and play music with one of my mentors after all these years. Of course, he had absolutely no idea who I was or how much of an impact his music had on me. No idea how much, year after year, band after band, his music and his style taught me about my own guitar.

I got to thank him and we talked for an hour. We played together and we saw the studio. We talked about his new label and tonight's launch party at the Federal Bar in North Hollywood. We'll be shooting it.

For now enjoy Part One of our series on the Lord of the Lower Frequencies, Stanley Clarke.

In Part Two we play some music... Stay Tuned!
