I remember being incredibly sad that the Brooklands track had not been restored, at that time, as there were industrial museums by the dozen in Manchester for all the marvelous work in the industries there, mostly at the key sites, and Brooklands would have been the obvious choice for a Grand Prix industrial museum for the south.
You could try the BBC, Horizon is one of their programs. Also, much of the archive footage is from "The Shell History Of Motor Racing", which may now be available on DVD.
Yes, time marches grimly on. They have left us an incredible legacy though. My favourite bit of this is where John Watson sets off in the Alfa P3, that blown Straight 8 is just the best sounding engine ever !!

They are all sadly dead now these guys here I think, Hugh Conway, George Monkhouse, Wiliam Boddy, and the genius that Mercedes were blessed with
