Inspired by /user/ramiretz video while upgrading my ram, I also upgraded the heat sink and added a heat sink to the graphics chip which now transfers heat to the back of the aluminium keyboard. The crude but effective addition to the main heat sink is held in just by the pressure of the case and fan cover against the springy side of the plate (shown compressed by a ruler) this eliminates any chance of it floating around inside if it gets a rough ride and eliminates any need for glue :)

You will need

Thin Aluminium sheet (from old hard drive/laptop etc)
Heat sink/transfer compound (pref Arctic Silver or similar quality)
Tools! Good precision screwdrivers & case openers, scissors, Black tape
Some Ram (may as well upgrade the memory while your in there)
One tube of patience
One stick of common sense

If you cant work out what's going on in the photos check out ramiretz video first and all will become clear :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZrpXZF2XC5M

Also check out tnkgrl's guide here for detailed disassembly

The machine runs A TON faster now with the extra ram, an essential upgrade for these machine if you want to run something more conventional than Linpus, I recommend Ubuntu or Mint for 8gb SDD as windows fills it up too fast. SSD's do not like to be more than 80% full before they start slowing down, linux for the win ;)

  • seems you know the way around inside this netbook...quick question, any chance you can change the graphics card in this netbook or is it onboard? :( noob question sorry.

  • @connell256 Q: Any chance you can change the graphics card in this netbook or is it on-board? Not on the acer one but I think there are few netbooks with pci-e sockets, remember that with any performance increase there will be a battery life reduction and a heat increase inside your case. If its performance your after your prob be better upgrading to a small laptop to be honest. That's why on this little one i run Linux Mint, super light and fast makes it ideal for the 8gb SSD :)

  • @AndysComputerTube sorry just had a proper look at yours and it is the same. any way to upgrade these to SATA speeds ?( around 60mb/s)

  • @connell256 Actually I suspect there might be but expect a fair bit of buggering about. Basically need to add a sata controller card and a hard disk but by the time your done may as well have just bought a new machine :P

  • aaaaaa tha cooling head is a nice idea :D:D

    very nice idea !!!

  • @ramiretz ah cheers dude :D it was so perfect I can't see why they don't do it at the factory but then I remembered, money and designed obsolescence what fun would it be if they didn't break lol Also folks, don't forget to clean that fan properly it seems to be designed to trap dust! I'm sure its just a coincidence :P

  • @AndysComputerTube cheers :) my acer A110 has a 8GB SSD (AKA SD card, as it only has 30mb/s read and 16mb/s write). Its connected by a connector like what is used to connect they keyboard onto the motherboard, i suspect it is compact flash? is there anyway to upgrade that to get SATA speeds like 60mb/s or 100+ from a proper SSD drive?

  • aliminium papper, in ondulatory mode like a car panel cooling water.

    I did it.
