2007 Hanmer Snow Ride

Kiwibikers gone for a ride in the snow behind Hanmer. Most of us are using our adventure bikes but NOT on ice tires because we're riding in from Christchurch. It was a hard work day, lots of push and shove of the bikes on what turned out to be mostly an ice ride instead of snow. Recorded from my helmet camera and hand held, I took my suddenly very heavy DR650SE out for this trip.

yeah how fast u get out of your DR.. the only problem i have is i find that i loose the rubber pieces in the frame alot

I don't know is the short answer to that.

Fastest i've been on 2 wheels is 250kph on a CBR1000f, it still had a bit left in it when i decided that was fast enough for me and it was a stupid idea doing it where i was.

Now that i ride Dual Sport or Adventure bikes its all about where I can go not how fast I can do it.

Good, a bit dirty, but then it gets dirt on it almost every weekend. Didn't break anything again, they are pretty hardy bikes once you add bash plate, decent handlebars and barkbusters.

Thanks. The bike in question might not be as old as it looks. It was a Suzuki TF125.

Man, I'm Canadian and we rode in 1 foot deep snow all the time when we were kids. First thing you do is put on 2 pairs of really warm socks, then grab your dads old wore out work boots (the ones with flat soles) and ride standing up (on the ground) and the boots act like skiis!!! Oh, wait, thats when we were kids... so you may wanna wear your own wore out boots... any way, I think you get the picture. It's a blast!!!!!!!!!

I love how the little old bike keeps up with the bigger new bikes. I think when I finally get an off roader again it'll be a smaller, older bike. 250 tops.

That's what I grew up on and still love.

Something about the underdog doing well and having fun at the same time :)

I really enjoy your vids, great fun to watch. I find it hard to capture the feeling on the day but you realy seem to easilly.

I just got me a DR650S this spring and one of the practical reasons was that if it had to it could get through the snow. Thanks for posting this awesome video!

Hahhahaha sweet, thats just crazy how these little bikes can go in environments like that ans still do so well.Picking my Dr650se this Thursday.Like you I got of the road bikes.I don't race so why ahve a bike that can do 275 + kph? Can't wait.thansk for the vid mate.
