@youknowimright1 If Scotland was independent it could control its own economic policies in terms of how much it could spend and its tax. For example, currently we have huge unemployment. If Scotland was independent it could increase spending to boost the economy until it has recovered. Currently we are at the mercy of Westminster and the Tory cuts. Also, we would be in control of our own military and could determine if we went to war or not.

i dont know why scotland wants independence?

The question for the referendum proposed by SNP is "Should Scotland be an independant Country?" So this should mean independant from the EU and the UN and NATO because to propose independence means independence not just from the UK becuase the question is vague but all particpating institutions.

that which was born in blood shell end in blood and the pains shell come as birthing pains, as civil war lingers.

@LegoScotsMan - we've got our own leader and government, we would keep the pound until a time it was felt appropriate to join the euro, and the British defence force we've got based in Scotland now would simply become the Scottish defence force. Problem solved

@theworldvideos1 majority mark in Scottish parliament is 65, SNP seats in parliament=69. I think they'll get it through

@derfruhlinginparis Also, it has been shown by polls that younger voters tend to be the ones supporting independence. By 2014, when the SNP plan to hold the referendum, obviously younger people will be older and will be able to vote. More old people will have died out and the figure supporting independence will be higher. I never really liked old people anyway...

@theworldvideos1 Your knowledge of scottish politics is somewhat outdated. The SNP have a majority in the scottish parliament. They possess 69 out of 129 seats in holyrood, thus, possess the majority needed to pass the independence referendum bill, which will be passed in a year's time. Also, government polls show that the desire for independence is on the increase. At the end of 2010, 23% of scottish voters approved of independence. At the start of 2012, this figure is 38%.

I would like idependence but the proplem is us Scots would need our own army, own money, own air force, own leader, own navy, own goverment and all that stuff.
i read Scottish people, most of them voted Alex Salmond but want to continue with England.
can someone clarify that? THX

@amsterdamforeverful basically most people voted for him, because they liked his economic policies, but not necessary independence !!!

@theworldvideos1 Thanks mate, so the referendum is not going to be success!! then now i understand why Salmond puts it in his last year of goverment.
Anyways he got the majority in the Scotish parlament, no one did the same.

@amsterdamforeverful Even if there is a referendum, most Scots would not vote for independence. Also Alex Salmond needs to get backing of most members in the Scottish Parliament to get a referendum, but he won't get that, because Conservatives + Labour+ Lib Dems votes in the parliament would stop the majority votes the SNP would need to get the referendum. The only other scottish party in the parliament that would support a referendum is the scottish greens, but they only represent 2 seats !!!
