try mpeg streamclip. it's available mac and pc. when converting, keep the quality to 100%

i realize this post was a long time ago and so you may have figured this out already, but switch from wmp to vlc as your main player (better codec support, lightweight, not a hackers dream)

If you are considering the Sony HX-1 or Canon SX1 IS, you should also consider the Casio EX-F1 because it has a focus ring around the lens, a external mic jack, a hot shoe, a threaded lens for UV filters, and slow motion (if you want a fun bonus). Hard to believe it's from Casio. The problem is the price.

just get quicktime for windows.

Yes the HD video is good, but the picture quality is CRAP! It would have been better selling this as a camcorder only!

I stumbled by and I can suggest Mp4Cam2AVI works perfectly. There after you can using any video editing/converting software which predominately accepts the .avi codec.

thank you so much. i just found out that if i make a video over 3 minutes long, when i try uploading the .mov file to my computer, it won't upload. =( i don't know what to do. no upload means, not being able to convert the .mov file to avi. i use mpeg streamclip and it says my file is too short. i think it's because it didn't copy from my camera to the desktop all the way.
help; how do you convert .mov files to avi? windows media player can't open the files that i make videos with this camera.

Nice. I also have SX1 IS. I saw you used some authoring software? Can you help me and tell which one? How to work with full HD mov files?
And one more thing. When I record video at evening, etc. inner house, I see much noise. Is it normal?
