I was just at the Marine corp musium and saw his medal of honar

I once read an account where the Marines questioned a Japanese survivor of the fight with Basilone as to why he and his friends just Zerg-rushed the machine-gun position like that, with scant thought for stealth, guile or preliminary fire superiority, much less their own safety. His reply? "We actually thought you would lose your nerve, turn tail and run." Guess they thought wrong.

btw guy who killed most single handedly in this war?... i've read there came around 3000 japanese and they where only 15... I think 3 survived or soemthing like it...

men you need in wars... doers... and men with balls of steel... this man seems to have been both...

sorry but in the description it's Banzai not Bonzai, unless you live in somewhere not in the US i guess thats the way you spell it.

@101andrewj He received the Medal Of Honor for his service in Guadalcanal he defended his position for three days and nights without sleep and barely any rationing and as shown in this video ran through Japanese occupied territory with only his sidearm and a machete (that was not shown obviously) to retrieve ammo for the .30 cal. He previously served in the Philippines while he served with the U.S Army so he knew the importance of holding his position. Rambo would fear him!

@boogyman240 Uhh, no.

@boogyman240 There is more to the story then what they showed in this movie. Do some research, dude.

this guy aint a badass anybody can place a 30 cal water cooled machine gun down and lay a waste to half the imperial army so he's not much of a hero

lmao i skipped one episode thinking "whatcould h]possibly happen" next thing i know john is getting the medal of honour lmfao fml
I actually had tears in my eyes watching John Basilone risk his life, pulling the dead Japs off the pile to clear the vision....And when his buddy, Manny, got killed, after saving John's life....What great men! What heroes! The winning of this battle and Midway were the turning points of the War. Those Japs were tough, ruthless fighters. They had been unstoppable until Guadalcanal and Midway. Those marines didn't know that they could win, but they were willing to die for us. what greatness
