House Hippo

We looked at this ad when we did our public service announcements. How many thought the house hippo was real? As a kid, was this effective or did this backfire in sending their message out?

I think most were so blinded for the need of a house hippo that the message was lost.

i thought the house hippos were so cute. i had no idea what this commercial was even about as a child. i just wanted a tiny hippo that would play with my cat

As well as the the fact that it emphasized on the hippo and not the message. Plus, I doubt any kid would really ask any questions about it, knowing it's a commercial.

I believe they exist, and I regularly make sure to fill up my dogs water dish, so it can swim if need be. :D

This ad does a terrible job of communicating what it's about. Until they pulled out to the TV at the end, I thought the hippos were an analogue to pests, like ants and rats, and they were saying not to leave food out unwrapped at night.

We had this one here in Britain too. It was about being "Media Smart", as it said in the ad.
