Mr. Shi (Henry O), a widower from Beijing, goes to visit his only daughter, Yilan (Faye Yu), in the USA. She has recently divorced and he intends to help her over the trauma. While Mr. Shi is determined that Yilan will recover her marriage and her life, his daughter starts avoiding him when his questions get too persistent. Pushed away from his child, Mr. Shi explores the town and meets Madam (Vida Ghahremani), an old woman who fled the Iranian Revolution. They start a brief friendship which comes to an end when the womans son sends her to a retirement home. In the face of this revelation from Madam and the confrontation with Yilan, for which Mr. Shi has never been prepared, he finally tries to accept things as they are.
