Chimping is a term used in digital photography (especially when using a digital single-lens reflex camera or DSLR) to describe the habit of checking every photo on the on-camera display (LCD) immediately after capture.

Usage varies depending on context and the person using it, but common uses include:

* when a photographer's sounds and actions of reviewing frames on-scene appear similar to the actions of an excited monkey. (Oooh! Oooh! Aaah!)
* when a photographer is completely absorbed in the act of analysing, admiring or proudly showing a photo off to others.
* by experienced photographers to describe the actions of "wannabe" photographers.

  • Nothing wrong with chimping even regardless of "moderation". Photographers are such a proud breed. Chimp a little, chimp a lot. Who F'ing cares. That said, if you miss a good shot because you were chimping, then that's probably not a good thing. But it's not my problem, it's yours! Cheers!

  • 2:34 probably a reasonably hot girl... why don't you guys go over there and say something ?

  • WHAT DO U THINK THE SCREEN IS ON THE BACK OF THE CAMERA FOR??

photographers are ALWAYS so high & mighty...especially that KNOW IT ALL in the hat & sunglasses

what year was this video made 2002 ?????

  • Why did the girl use a D1X? Do people still use them?

  • i understand if people chimp if they begun photography on film, the settings are not identical, and take a while to get used to it.

  • i am like Rod Mar, chimp when there is mixed light and Jack Gruber - USA Today, there is nothing wrong with chimping, keeping it to considerable moderation.

  • I'm a total chimp-master. But then again, I'm only 1 year into my photography degree. I notice I do it less than I used to, though.

  • Chimping with pictures of chimps?! Instant Classic!

  • Aha! I thought is was Rod. Just couldn't put the name to the face at the time.
