I had the same with my T500, but shortly after magnesium frame in the screen on the left side broke.
-
@FreedomFighterReturn True, my z560 also has this problem
-
exact same problem eventually led to a broken hinge. Is it covered under warranty

@virtute71 if it is a T61 you can send it in for replacement they had a recall on them for the ones with NVidia chips
-
@wuyunchi your whole computer is probably "chinsese"... how can you blame minor quality on a country?
-
Most people make the mistake at thee begining. Replacing the hinge must be the least solution. Before that tightening screws of hinge and also the main hinge screw can fix the problem not only for this notebook but also for the other notebooks.

Watch out! My 2 1/2 year Lenovo T61 lid can't be closed anymore (never dropped it, always been very careful with it). And no I don't pull on the screen as someone mentioned. Suddenly, the left hinge seems to not be connected anymore. I still have a 1999 Think Pad (IBM) & have never had any problems with it; I'm still using it with my 3 year old!. Seems that back then they knew how to build their pc! Not to mention their battery problems. Do yourself & your wallet a favor & stay away from Lenovo
i found a solution on how to fix this problem without buying new hinges. just google for "ventilatorxor thinkpad screen" and follow the link to the wordpress blog =) there is also a link in my chanel.

is it the hinges or the screws... sometimes screws get loose and needs to be tightened.

Not sure if it's screws or screws on the hinges. If it was only tightening the screws so the hinge is tight once again, at least that can be fixed by most people and no parts need replacing.
