"Tiger Rag" was composed in 1917 by Nick LaRocca of the Original Dixieland Jazz Band, one of the pioneering jazz bands. The Les Paul and Mary Ford version hit no. 2 on Billboard and no. 8 on Cash Box in 1952 when released as a Capitol Records single in the U.S.
I have that same 78. I happened on it when my grandpa let me go through his old phonographs. I also found Louis Armstrong's version of Hank Williams' "My Brakin' Heart".
This was recorded and released in late 1951...I believe this is the "Telefunken" {German} issue of the original Capitol release...the original 45 copies had Capitol's patented "O.C. 45" center, where you didn't need an "adapter" to play it on your turntable...
@lauraxbraniganfan Don't forget Les Paul was the inventor of multi-track recording. He's using it here to modify the sound of his and Mary's guitars.
