Trying out the Peavey Windsor Studio on a Peavey Valve King 4x12 Slant cab. The volume is set at 3/4 & the gain at ½, the built in power attenuator is set at 7/8 to keep volume reasonable. Wow! Lots of gain! This is the same as my cab so I wanted to hear what it would sound like on it as well. I'm in the market for a combo amp to take with me to smaller gigs & practice sessions. I have a Peavey Valve King 100, it's a huge amp, and I love the sound but not very portable. What I'm looking for in a combo amp is something portable that has enough gain for chunky rhythm playing. I'm just playing some stray Nightwish riffs to keep a general theme of sound. This amp is being played with the factory EL34 tubes. I would be changing them to some 6L6GC's in order to be more similar to my Valve King.

Very big thanks to http://www.act1music.com for letting us test drive pretty much anything we've asked for. Great Peavey selection & nice guys there too.

  • So does it chung?

  • @MagrPwnAge Does this video have a really low rating?

  • @Mandskull well just because it has low ratings doesnt meet it cant chug. Sooooooooo `....... Does it chug?

  • @MagrPwnAge LOL! The Answer to both is YES! But you really need to either play it through a closed back cab, or modify the built in cab to be closed back. I would Replace the power tube with a TAD 6L6GC-STR and the Pre-amp tube with a Tung-Sol 12AX7. The cool thing with these amps is they can take nearly any tube & are very easy to change the tubes. Do a few of these small things and this amp can easily do downtuned metal.

  • I have a peavy windsor studio, and a fender strat, I'm not very satisfied with the sound. I can't get a good a good bass sound, which isn't very good when I'm trying to play heavy music. I think part of it's the guitar, I kinda want to get a ibanez. but I don't really have the money right now. I was doing some research and found that this amp has a low quality speaker which might be some of my problem. Do you think it makes a BIG difference in the sound using a cabinet? Thanks...

  • @AJY710 If you’re looking for more bass and a heavier sound you should be looking for a closed back (British style) cab. Speakers can make a HUGE difference in sound. Try a Blackheart 1x12 cab. The price is good and they sound great. I’m sure you can find some reviews on YouTube.

  • Agreed, Buckethead is the shit. He can do everything to a fucking T.

  • I got something he can't do: write an interesting song!

I kid, I kid: I just felt like being a music snob for a second.

Nice amp demonstration. The Windsor is a great amp. Throw a boost in front and it's perfect for thrash or turn the gain down and the volume up for some AC/DC style crunch!

  • I'm having a big problem and I need help! I just got a USB interface so I tried recording my windsor through the record out port. It sounded terible! Just really weak. I did some searching and found some really negative stuff about this amp.

Have you tried recording this way? I've got the feeling I'm doing something wrong...

  • I wonder what a windsor would sound like through my classic 5150 cab.

  • Will you buy it for me, mommy? I want to play G and A fifth chords all day!
