"You wouldn't keep your books out ten years past their due date. Why should municipal politicians be allowed to leave a promise "overdue" for more than a decade?
Yet politicians who control the budget of the Greater Victoria Public Library are refusing, through their bargaining agent, to deliver on a promise to Library workers. The "due date" on their promise was 1996, more than a ten years ago.
What they promised was "Pay Equity". And they promised that Library workers would be paid at the same rates as other Municipal workers at Victoria City Hall.
But today, more than ten years past the due date, they have still not delivered. Library workers are still paid substantially less than other local Municipal workers doing equivalent jobs.
Please help us by reminding your municipal politicians of their promise, and letting them know that you expect them to keep it."
Please help us to negotiate a fair contract.
-Visit http://www.overduepromise.ca and send an email to your municipal council.
-Visit any Library branch and fill out the "Pay Equity is Ten Years Overdue" postcard.
-Write a letter to the editor of your newspaper.
-Call, email, or write your municipal politicians.
-Attend a meeting of your municipal council and express your concerns.
-Call a radio talk show during open segments and express your opinion on the air.
Keep up the good word/video on "us" Adam.
