first of all you wouldnt add $2 and $27 you would SUBTRACT them and you would get teh $25 they paid for the hotel DONE

if they all paid $9 per person that is $27, he had two dollars left and they told him to keep it as a tip, that's $29.

You guys are looking at it wrong. 9x3 is 27 but it only cost 25. so it would be 25 devided by 3 wich is 8.3333. so basicly they should each get. 1.6666 back wich works out to be 9.9999 or jus say 10 (wut they origanly paid)cuz you cant devide 25 by 3 evenly.

hmmm.. but if the 3 guys paid $10 each, then received $1 back each, they technically paid $9 each x 3 guys = $27, they told him to keep the $2 which makes $29.

WAIT i got it!!! this is simple. they paid 9 each wich is 27 and it COST 25 so the 2 dollars extar IS THE TIP the guy kept is the 26th and 27th dollar and they got the 28th 29th and 30th

it's like this because i just looked it up.... you don't add the 2 and 27 together because the 2 dollars came out of the 27 dollar payment.... so there is no reason to add the two numbers together.....the clerk got 25 the bellhop got 2 which is 27 and they got a 3 dollar refund which equals 30..... i looked it up on wikipedia

each payed 10 (30 dollars total) it cost 25 (leaving 5 dollars behind)25 divided by 3 is 8.3333(the amount they each payed) now if theres 5 dollars left that mean they each get 1.66666 back and that times 3 is 5. the 27 is a trick because it cost 25 total. people dont catch that u said it cost 25 but then u SAY 27.
