In this spoken commentary, I explain some strategic ideas in the Maroczy bind. This highly positional encounter is in fact the first time I have ever played the Sicilian defense with Black! I hope that you enjoyed the music version I uploaded prior to this one. The idea of replaying just the moves, accompanied by some great old tunes from the 50s-80s, is that you develop some thoughts first about the positions. Then you can compare your thought processes with mine, and see if you missed anything or if your questions were answered.

  • I'm a bit new openings like the sicilian, if I was black and my opponent played Pd4, would I still be able to go ahead with the sicilian? After I play Pc5, if my opponent captured the pawn with his, would Qa5+, then after he blocks, Qxc5 winning back the pawn. Would this be any good? Any response is appricated.

  • @Olliek94 1 e4 c5 2.d4 is called the Smith-Morra gambit. I have played it myself with White, but if Black knows what he is doing Black should be better. You have to capture the pawn with 2...cxd4, and then White usually gambits a pawn with 3 c3 dxc3 4 Nxc3. You can look it up on the Internet.

  • saw this in my subs, put it on the backburner, forgot

  • @AlanWattParrot Thanks for your support. You have always boosted my confidence to make videos :-) By the way, the Jan issue has come out, and I've already got the thumbs up for my Feb issue I've finished.

That's a great motto! I hope your chess is going well.

  • what is your rating?? don't yell at me.

  • @rwarnicke It says in the title, next to the players' names: I am 192 ECF. Also 2066 ELO, but I recently performed at 2300 in the British championships.
