As for snorkeling the unit before getting into deep water. Absolutely YES. If not you'll quickly water lock your engine and destroy the CVT.

The CVT Belt, is what operates the Continuously Variable Transmission. It runs between the primary and secondary clutch sheaves giving you basically an infinite number of "gear" ratios minus having a bunch of gears. The CVT transmissions are built very well in the Yamaha ATV's/UTV's but as with any CVT if water enters the drive case it wreaks havoc on the internal components and causes the belt and clutches to start slipping horribly bringing a quick end to the life of the belt
