@thatrabbitvideo You have to remember that he is a spirit- his earthly body is gone that's why it sounds past tense. I suggest you study his word throughly to understand as to why we Christians think this way.
@zytigon - It's Joe Atwill who hits the home run with "Caesars Messiah". How no-one has spotted all he has is unbelievable.
Gospels narrative is based on the Jewish War. The Trinity are the Flavian Emperors. The Romans wrote the New Testament. The puzzle of Testimonium Flavianum solved.
The New Testament has the Flavian signature. Luke & Acts is dedicted to Flavius Sabinus (Theophilus), brother of Vespasian (the father).
@Tailena I agree. E.A.Wallis Budge translation of, 'The Papyrus of Ani' (1500BCE comp O.T.800-300BCE ish), other great writings are by Donald A. Mackenzie,' Egyptian myth and legend', James G Frazer, 'The Golden Bough', For sceptical Bible scholars try, Joseph Wheless, Robert Ingersoll, C.Dennis Mckinsey, Victor J Stenger, Robert M Price, Dan Barker, John W. Loftus, Bart Ehrman, Gary Greenberg, Richard Carrier, David Mills, Valerie Tarico, Ken Humphreys, archaeologist Israel Finkelstein
If you want to know who Jesus is, you have to stop being vulnerable, and start doing your OWN research, understand the history of Egypt and Israel.. thats the Key
If you Read Isaiah 14 v 12 and compare it with Revelations 22 v 16, there you have it, it will tell you who Jesus is NOW THATS EVIDENCE THAT CAN NOT BE DENIED!
well if you believe that Jesus is alive right now then why would you use the past tense??? that wouldnt make any sense would it. But even if you do believe that Jesus is dead then surely its not so terrible to say who is Jesus is it? You'd say what is a dinosaur, whether theyre alive or dead. I cant possibily see how it affects you in the slightest?
if you tried to get to know him - if you were brave enough to put your neck on the line and believe in something other than what you can see, and asked him expectantly to reveal himself to you, i can guarantee you would feel differently.
The use of the present tense term "is" is an attempt to smuggle in the notion that Jesus exists in the here and now without debate. It's just one of the dialectical ploys that theists should not be allowed to get away with.
Should be---Who WAS Jesus?---or even better---did he exist at all?
You think that because you don't know him yet. I really hope you can listen to his call some day...he is calling to everyone, no doubt about it. Once you start knowing him, recognizing him, everything starts to change. All becomes clearer, all starts having a purpose. You lead a happy life, full of the deepest feelings, just by opening up to Jesus, by letting him in to your life. There is more to life. I'm sorry if it doesn't make sense to you now, lets hope it does someday...
