Hakarl, or rotten shark meat is an Icelandic delicacy so foul that even my local guide refused to sample it with us. In it's natural state the shark used in the dish is poisonous so first the shark is buried with it's split gut facing downslope so that the poisonous uric acid and fluids can drain from the body. After a couple of months like this it's hung to dry and after a couple of months more, its chopped up and served to you. I've eaten a lot of weird foods before but this is the first time I've been fighting to keep control of my stomach.
Puffin is super cute and super delicious, I felt guilty about this one.
Minke whale is like beef but better, richer in flavour. The animal is not endangered or protected and we only have an issue with eating it because we humanise it and hear about how wrong it is to eat whale all the time from green groups. I'm not promoting it or discouraging it, but do some research and make up your own mind. For me it was a case of when in Iceland, do as the Icelandic people do.
Hákarl actually just means shark, just to clarify 1 or 2 things :)

Eating meat is not "immoral"

When you're not from a place, it's rather difficult to indulge in
local customs or what they would consider their 'delicacies', yet
I applaud your bravery as I for one couldn't phantom eating rotten
shark for any reason, nor the whale since most species are endangered.
The puffin...honestly, I couldn't say. They're soooo cute, but maybe
I'd at least try it, and that's saying a lot for me. Glad you all had a bit of
fun there and I agree with 'silkaem', this does make me want to visit Iceland. = ]
