Greetings from North Carolina. Just wanted to say I've watched 3 of your vids so far and each of them has been clear, easy to follow, and very informative. Unlike many others out there I've painfully sat through. Thanks for your hard work!

just wondering about the meter. it should be always meter @ the center before you take the photo? or doesnt matter? i mean depend on exposure? thanks!

Hi. I am wondering why my built in flash limits my shutterspeed to 1/200 and not faster than that. Is it the settings or is my camera to cheap (Canon 550D). Im trying to trigger my 430 EX bu using the pop up flash. This makes the background too bright as I am trying to take low key photos.
Thanks

hi dom, do you ever use a light meter like a sekonic or others, something tells me you dont.
-
Thanks Dom I've seen this dozen times now I'm starting to build up my kit I'm back watching the old ones again thanks bro

Absolutely, and the slower the shutter speed the greater the affect which ambient light will have on the final image. For example, at half a second you're likely to see motion blur when taking a photo of a non-stationary object. I understand what he's saying - reducing the shutter speed does not affect the portion of the image which is exposed by the flash, but still, the implications of having a slow shutter speed must be considered when photographing objects which may move.

32th?! Nice! Haha.

@Dombowerphoto great .. i totally agree with you dom .. thanks for your time

he's talking about the FLASH exposure not the AMBIENT exposure... the flash exposure will remain the same regardless of your shutter speed
-
@Dombowerphoto yes, of course, bad choice of words :D
The shutter speed does matter in the sense that a really low shutter speed will allow for more ambient light from the room as demonstrated.

thanks dom .. nice video :)
from my personal experience .. the shutterspeed has a huge effect when using a nikon speedlight .. BUT that works when you are shutting portraits at NIGHT. i mean if you want to make balance between the lighting of the object and the background street lighting for example
dunno how to explain .. but i'm going to send you one of my shots using the advantage of controllable flash lighting for night time portraits ..

Great video Dom...so aperture controls exposure for flash photography...does the ISO setting have a similar effect?

@RichardFarrell1973 kindof but it also increases the whole exposure, so not that great. will detail that in the next video
