@joesakic91 Most guys do one or the other. Floyd will open up, but only once he feels he's safe from being countered himself. If he doesn't feel like that, he'll be careful the whole fight. It's a fight I really want to see, so I hope it happens this year, before one or the other is shot.
But in order to beat an all-attack fighter like Manny Pacquiao, you need to mix up your game and take some chances with care when getting the Pacman against the ropes. Not really bullrushing like Ricky Hatton tried to do.
@joesakic91 I agree with the fact it was a close fact and the judges leaned towards Pacman's aggression and volume rather than Marqeuz' precision. Like I said, I scored it 115-113 for Marquez, but there were enough close rounds that fight could have gone either way. JMM could not be more aggressive nd mix up his counterpunching and trap Manny along the rope - were he to try that he'd get caught and put down, and he knows it.
But will the judges hired by the NSAC who score the fights at ringside agree with you that counterpunching alone gets it done once any close decision fight goes the distance? They have the final say-so on this and those are the ones that really matter.
Had JMM been more aggressive to mix up his counterpunching and really trap Pacquiao along the ropes and piled on more blows after landing a counter when going forward in those three fights, he could've had a much better argument.
@joesakic91 Yep the third fight. And admitedly there were plenty of close rounds. Fight could have gone either way. And yes, counter-punching alone can get it done. Lots of guys win strictly on counter-punching. The name of the game is to win more rounds than your opponent, and if you do that, no matter how you do that, you win. But yes it was a close fight. Floyd is at least as good a counter-puncher as Marquez, and a better defensive fighter BUT, can he read Manny's mind?
Which fight? The third fight? I had the same score 115-113, but it was for Pacquiao. Some of the rounds in Fight #3 were close, but some argue that Manny got the last flurry in some of those close rounds.
Sure, JMM gave Pacquiao fits with his counterpunching style, but counterpunching alone can't get it done. You have to mix up your game by attacking and counterattacking and also really trap and smother Pacquiao along the ropes and in the corner. Erik Morales did in Fight 1 vs. MP.
@joesakic91 Joe, it was not a good fight for Manny. I like Manny, and admire how he fights and how far up in weight he has come since breaking into the pro ranks. Non-Pareil in that respect. But I scored the fight 115-113 for Marquez. Marquez is a guy who will always give Manny trouble. Can read his mind.
this was when he started using steroids.. oh and not to mention he drained morales for this fight.. pacquiao is a cheating ricer!!

That's just my take on how to really beat Manny.

@LOFIAD I think Freddy will protect Manny from that and advise him when to reject certain fights.
