From July 2011, regulation ECE104 will make it mandatory to apply approved reflective tape to certain HGVs. However, even without the regulatory requirement, many Fleet Managers realise that reflective markings on vehicles help to prevent accidents and save lives, reduce vehicle downtime and repairs, protect staff on the road and in the depot, and present a more professional image to customers.

  • This is great but who is playing the drums?

  • @carsruleok Here is a link to the DfT download if it helps dft.gov.uk/vosa/repository/FTA%20DfT%20Conspicuity%20Guide.pdf

  • professional image to customers??? never heard such crap!! its a piece of tape!! a clean and decent looking truck does that job .

  • @amfwelsh True, but 3M are giving guidelines as to how to comply with the new ECE104 legislation which became active on July 10th 2011.

  • The materials used in the construction of the reflective result in the top surface having a low surface energy, thus reducing the ability for dirt to stick to it - a similar concept to the use of wax compounds on cars. Materials of similar construction are used all over the world for emergency service vehicles to mining trucks without substantial issue from dirt accumulation. However, routine washing of the vehicle is recommended for maximum performance of the tape.

  • Why am I watching this video?

  • Ok, the tape's great... but can everybody stop using the ridiculous "saving lives" crap, like their product is Superman.

  • Tis good stuff, do you have any videos of Black coloured tape/adhesive backed products?

  • Probably the most boring video I have seen today, still, the night is still young.

  • Nah its not the HGVs that are the problem its agricultural vehicles. Only a few days ago I almost had a head-on collision with a Matbro telehandler. This was being driven on a public road (country lane only ten feet wide) As I came around a bend there it was with its boom sticking out like a black battering ram. One might have expected the boom end to have had reflectors or to be painted white. Nope, it looked as if black was the only colour the painter had. Absolutely disgusting.

  • Why did I just watch that? I may buy a lot to put on my kids... Then they'd be WELL SAFE!

  • I never thought of putting this on my helmet (fnarr fnarr) it is very useful.

  • I have bought some of this stuff and it looks good to me.Cheers.

  • i bought some of that yellow tape for my bike and helmet.. its overkill, but, it is soo freaking bright.. awesome stuff. im surprise they dont market this stuff for bikes, its so much better than the pedestrian stuff they have at bike shops
