  • It's odd how your camera's microphone cuts out everytime the FN P90 user fires. What did you think of the gun?

Personally, its many appearances in mainstream fictional media have led to it being overhyped. You couldn't hunt game larger than most varmints with this gun, and trying to do so would illustrate its low stopping-power-per-bullet ratio.

  • @Mazryonh

My microphone started having problems after recording a couple of shots on a bolt action .50 BMG. Of which I have video but no sound. The noise was hideous, unless you were doing the shooting. If you were shooting then the massive muzzle break saved you.

I really like the P90 from a purely defensive standpoint. I would never want to go offensive with it. Plus IMO the ammo that is available in the civilian market is very underwhelming. Many people I know with 5.7 Handguns

  • Are using .224rojectilesin 5.7 brass for a velocity near 200fps

  • should read projectiles and 2000 fps

  • @svxr8dr I see. But without the military ammo, some articles I've read are very derisive of that projectile's stopping power (labelling as less than 9x19mm Parabellum). Of course, the medical data from the Fort Hood shooting might have something to say about that . . .

A PS90's barrel length could help with extending the round's range, and perhaps you could even mount an underslung grenade launcher on it with some work.

  • @Mazryonh I agree with you about Ft. Hood, while IMO a terrorist attack, that was preventable and tragic. I would like to know more about has that FN 5.7 handgun performed. The caliber as a whole though,is pretty interesting.Overall I think it is a potential great weapon for those in non combat arms occupations. Not Stargate teams though.....I think they need something heavier with the ability to go offensive quickly lol

  • @svxr8dr I meant that if you wanted to, you could examine the medical casualty data from the Ft. Hood shooting as a "life-fire" example of just how lethal the civilian 5.7x28mm rounds are. Those who were shot were actual humans, not ballistic gelatin blocks or pigs. Completely unethical, but it would give you a better look into its actual lethality.

I hear the UN once wanted to make the 5.7mm round the new standard pistol round. I would rather see a 10mm "Joint Combat Pistol" myself.

  • @svxr8dr Yep, blame Canada for the FN P90's hype as as Stargate SG-1 (it was filmed there) weapon. Waitaminute--Stargate SG-1 was an MGM production, and the P90 is a Belgian invention. You should have screamed "this one's for Col. O'Neill, you damn dirty Jaffa!" :)

I wonder if the Five-seveN's appearance as the "Colonial Anti-Cylon Pistol" in the new Battlestar Galactica (also filmed in Canada) helped sell that one as well. FN Herstal must be laughing all the way to the bank.
