One tip for the part where you missed: When changing directions, I find it helps to unfocus and move in the same direction immediately after a set of bullets is fired (i.e. at the start of the pause between "bang" sounds), then focus and start moving back. So if you were moving to the right and wanted to go left, you'd unfocus, dart to the right, then focus and scoot back to the left slowly. This works against most of those circles that mostly force you to move in one direction.

I think the major problem is that wasn't tapping lightly enough initially. I've done that section countless times before without having to move back in the other direction, so I was pushing my luck there when I should have just jumped to the side of the screen.
