A University of Calgary Faculty of Medicine researcher has received $1.5 million from the Alberta Livestock and Meat Agency (ALMA) to research a new way to test for BSE in live animals by analyzing the DNA sequencing found in blood samples of cattle. Currently, the diagnosis of the disease can only be done using brain tissue from deceased animals.
