Celebrating now over 50 years of Motown music with one of the signature songs for Martha & The Vandellas, "Nowhere To Run". This Top 10 tune from March of 1965 was written by the legendary Motown songwriting team of Holland, Dozier, & Holland with instrumentation provided by the famed Funk Brothers.
we would play Nowhere to Run daily substituting "charlie" for baby..
I heard that the outnumbered Marines (4 to 1) played this at the battle of Khe Sanh.

@jenzeppelin Indeed. The Motown sound was ringing loudly, from what I have been personally told, with the GIs in Vietnam. Many have told me that when they had down time and heard songs like this they really felt a connection to home.

What always fascinated me about this, one of Motown's greatest songs ever, is that it's not only tough, exciting, and ominous-sounding, it's that Martha Reeves' lady at the center of the story is trying to find a positive justification for a relationship with a man with a questionable nature while spelling out her paranoia about him at the same time. Holland-Dozier-Holland were smart songwriters indeed, as this song spoke of a form of co-dependency long before that term became fashionable.

Powerful song...I read a comment on YouTube somewhere in which the commenter described having this song playing in his head while they would attack when he was serving during the Vietnam war...the image of a soldier singing this in his head in those conditions will never leave me now. Haunting as hell.
