@Crudshifter It so is!! Posh people don't really have a choice; if you have been born into a wealthy family, you cant help it. And i'm not saying that the poor are to blame for their 'poorness' as it were, but they don't have to be chavs. Its not as if they can only afford tracksuits and 'bling-bling'(you can tell i'm new to the concept of this word usage).

@123jataylor Also you further are supporting my point with the vain attempt to add credibility. You came from a poorer disadvantaged background and are not a chav. Therefore chav is not an umbrella term to refer to poor (white???) people. To help your vocabulary out, in regard to your statement that I divide people 'by appearance', I said 'demeanour' in the same sentence. Dictionary definition: 'the way a person behaves towards others; conduct.' That doesn't relate to appearance.

@123jataylor Language is pretty fluid thing. I'm well versed in English Language and Linguistics(!) Some aspects of feminism make a huge fuss over semantics which is the direction you beginning to go in. Growing up, I knew plenty of chavs who came from middle class backgrounds, I am actually trying to take classism out of what I am saying. No matter how rigidly you want to think I discriminate against the working classes I am saying that it is a matter of choice to be a chav.

@123jataylor If you're actually a History student at a top university you better learn to make a more coherent and substantiated argument. Limited vocabulary? Clutching at straws. For a purportedly top student, you lack basic spelling or grammar. I just don't see the point of mentioning it as it isn't exactly on topic. I also went to a top university. Going to one doesn't mean everyone else will bow down to your infinite wisdom. That's a pretty poor attempt to add credibility.

@123jataylor The initial comment prompting this discussion was devoid of any scientific analysis or fact. You are also completely cherry picking parts of what I've said. I've clearly stated that I do not believe chavs to be necessarily of a certain socioeconomic background nor do they all dress exactly the same. I also pointed out that everyone makes judgements regarding the 'clothing, appearance, demeanour etc' to point out that these factors count for something.
